Introducing Cyndi Woods
Before we publish our author's writing, we want to have them introduce themselves to the community. First up, we have Cyndi Woods giving us a little peek inside her life and experience!
Well hello everyone! I would like to introduce myself to you all.
My name is Cyndi Woods, I am 43 years old with a17-year-old son and a
15-year-old daughter, but I didn’t tell you that to get sympathy. I have been
married to a wonderful man for almost 19 years, and we have a dog, a cat, and
two bunnies. No partridge in a pear tree yet, but we’re working on that. I grew
up right here in Flint and attended Kearsley High School. I have one brother
who also went to Kearsley, which was super fun as no one knew me by name, just
as his little sister.
After high school, I went to Mott Community College where I wrote
for the college newspaper for two years, then received my associates degree in
Fine Arts. It was rather difficult at that time because there wasn’t much
available for people with disabilities at a public college, or high school for
that matter. I started having trouble with my vision when I was 9-years-old. My
parents took me to the eye doctor of course, assuming I needed glasses but
quickly learned there was more going on. After many more appointments, tests,
and doctors, we discovered that I would be legally blind. It is still not known
for certain what I have even after 34 years, but here I am, surviving! Now I
get to share my story with all my new friends at The Disability Network. I am
so pleased to be doing this, and I look forward to connecting more and more
with everyone.
